about HEM decor

My journey to small business owner has been a long and winding one, but perhaps not a surprising destination considering my background.

Perhaps it is the memory of playing Strawberry Shortcake under the craft sale table while my mother and grandmother sold their latest handmade creations. My grandmother made the most amazing handmade candles, which she named "Joy Lites" after her name, Joyce. But there was always something new to try, painted wood ornaments, silk floral arrangements (it was he '80's after all)... I guess you could say creating beautiful things is in my blood!

Not only did I learn how to wield a hot glue gun and manage a sewing machine from my beloved grandmother and mother, but an appreciation for things "well loved" or vintage. Hours spent hunting for "treasures" in thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets helped me hone a keen eye for diamonds in the second-hand rough.

This appreciation seems to have spilled over to my Etsy shop, as I definitely can identify the vintage influences in my products. Lucky for me style trends seem to cycle through every so many years, so all those craft sales I attended in the 1980's have made me an expert in all things trendy 30 years later!

So thanks to Mom and my late Grandma Joycee, there wouldn't be a HEM decor (for many reasons!) if it weren't for you...
